Program Description: Electrical Technology is designed to provide students with skills in all phases of electricity (residential. Industrial, and commercial). Upon completion of the program, students will take the WV state electrician exam and enter the workforce with entry-level skills as a journeyman electrician with a journeyman license.

Length: 1080 hours (2 year program - 8 credits)

Employment Opportunities: There are many areas to enter once the program is completed. The following are a few: residential electrician, industrial electrician, commercial electrician, maintenance electrician, construction electrician, manufacturing, sales, telecable and telecommunications.

Opportunities for Further Study: The basics of electricity can go into many directions. A few follow: electrical engineer, motor controls, PLCs, CISCO, networking, lasers, and design.

Recommended prerequisites: Good hand to eye coordination, good mechanical ability, good color coordination, good mathematical background, and clear and precise thinking skills.

Certifications: Students can earn a West Virginia Electrician's License (apprentice and journeyman.)

Articulation Agreements: Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College (28 hours); West Virginia University Institute of Technology (up to 25 hours); IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) in Durham, NC.
